Automation
Unisign has years of experience in the development of automation and product handling solutions. This Uninews specifically focuses on the equipment we have developed and supplied to customers. This document consists of information highlighting the standard Unisign products and customer specific developed solutions.
UNIPENT 4000 with pallet changer
The UNIPENT 4000 can be completed with a pallet changer for various pallet sizes. The heart of the pallet changer is a 6-axis robot that is located in the centre of a robot cell. This robot cell is installed in front of the UNIPENT 4000 machining centre.
The head of the robot is equipped with a universal gripper that picks up the pallet from storage cabinets. Inside the machine, the pallet is located onto zero‑point clamps that are integrated into the rotating & tilting table of the machine. The zero‑point clamping system ensures accurate and stabile clamping of the pallet onto the machine table.
In between the UNIPENT 4000 machine and the robot cell, a sluice allows access to the operator via an access door in the safety fence. This ensures that the machine can always be loaded manually.
The loading station is located close to the machine control panel to facilitate pallet data entry as well as access to the status displays.
UNICOM with pallet changer
The Unicom 6000 and Unicom 7000 machines are equipped with a pallet changer that can hold pallets in various sizes and configurations. The pallet changer of the Unicom 6000 is located sideways at the rear of the machine and very close to the operator platform. This set-up ensures that the front face of the machine is always available for the operator. The operator access door with large window is located close to the spindle to ensure an undisturbed view on the machining process.
The pallet loading station is, in relation to positioning and clamping of pallets, always identical to the carousel turning station. Alignment of new components can therefore take place during loading which eliminates time consuming measurements inside the machine.
Truck Front Axle
Front axle machining cell, consisting of a Unitwin machine with overhead loading system and supply & discharge conveyors. This double gripper ensures very quick changeover of front axles. The conveyors can hold approximately 12 front axle beams to allow for unmanned machining. This system has been supplied to nearly all leading manufacturers world-wide.
Truck cylinder head
This machine layout was purposely designed to produce cylinder heads for trucks. Via a central loading position, the automatic loading unit feeds three machines with 5-axes capabilities. The loading unit is designed to take two products, i.e. to take out of the machine the finished component and to load the new one. The layout is such that it can be easily extended with further machines.
Forklift mast channels
This machine layout is dedicated to produce forklift mast channels. The transport system can be connected to the storage system and an integrated saw unit can cut them to the exact length. The automatic conveyor system feeds the channels into the machining centres in pairs (left and right hand channel). The system produces the fork lift mast channels without manual handling. Subsequently the channels are handed over again to the transport system which feeds the channel designed to load the products on the machine.
Turbo chargers
The largest installation designed and supplied by Unisign was for a Swiss manufacturer of turbo systems. The whole system consists of 2 Unicom machines to produce the turbo chargers for ship engines. These machines are loaded via a pallet conveyor track. There are two loading positions that allow the operator to load but also align the component. Temporarily, the pallet with component are stored in a holding area and subsequently transferred into one of the machines. This installation has been successfully running 24/7 for many years
